Oman International Bank SAOG came into existence on 1st January 1984 as the first 100% Omani owned commercial bank in the Sultanate.
However our history dates back to March, 1975 when the Arab African International Bank's (AAIB) Muttrah branch was inaugurated. Four years later in 1979, the AAIB was taken over by the newly establish Oman Arab African Bank.
Established at the beginning of the year in 1979 as an Omani Joint Stock Company, its objective was to create an alliance and with the Arab African International Bank in
Cairo and first class local shareholders in Oman . The Issued Capital of the bank was OMR2 million, of which OMR1 million was paid for with 90% of the shares held by the founders of the bank and the balance of 10% on offer to the public.
In 1980, Oman Arab African Bank transferred its operations to a main office in Ruwi, whilst keeping the Muttrah office open as a branch. Over the next 3 years, we opened branches in Sidab, Al Khuwair and Salalah as well as receiving license to open our first branch in Mumbai, India. |
